Since 2001, Family TIES of Nevada, Inc. has offered information, referrals, education and parent-to-parent support at no cost to families of children with special health care needs and individuals with disabilities in Nevada. Sometimes it's hard to understand what "support" really looks like to the families and individuals we serve and the level of support that is needed for a child diagnosed with chronic illness or disabilities.
A Parent's Story:
"My children, Jonathan 18 and Giselle 12, both have autism. My son was diagnosed since early childhood; however, up until now he was not receiving the treatment he needed because my health insurance did not cover it and I didn't know where to go to look for help. Giselle was diagnosed a few weeks ago and I do not want her to live the same experience. When I contacted Family TIES it changed my life. I received a lot of support and information, which has helped me give my children the services they need such as Jonathan’s transition services, guardianship, employment opportunities, and different financial options for Giselle. They helped me organize my children’s medical records, and offered ways that I can search for services on my own. I was matched up with another parent with a child with autism, which was a great relief! The support I received from this parent was very important because they shared their experiences, successes, challenges, and offered advice on ways that I can help my children."
